3 Ways You May Be Quitting Without Knowing and How To Stop

3 Ways You May Be Quitting Without Knowing and How To Stop

Are you suffering from anxiety or depression and can't figure out why?  It may be as simple as changing your approach to new ideas and situations and learning how to stop sabotaging yourself.

1.  Assume you can't do something.  When I started lifting heavy kettlebells I would approach the weights with hesitation and emotional fear.  I assumed I could not lift, that I wasn't strong enough.  Last night I completed 10 reps of a half deadlift with 280 pounds.  That's a lot of pounds, 160 more pounds than my bodyweight.  That's 10 more reps than I expected.   Last night I approached the weight with confidence for the first time.  If on first listen you tend to assume you are unable to do something you may be selling yourself short. Instead, cue your brain or better yet command your brain with a positive attitude.  Approach all tasks (however scary or new) with an "I can and I will" attitude.  You may be pleasantly surprised.

2.  Stick to what you know.  I am a big fan of intuition and following one's instinct.  However sometimes we confuse stubbornness and inflexibility for intuition and that can get in the way of you learning new strategies and most importantly finding new solutions to old problems.  Instead, try to take a "macro view" of a situation. Think of new unthinkable and bizarre ways to approach a problem or task.  You may discover new creative ideas and angles to your recurring problems.

3.  Refuse to learn from your mistakes.  Sometimes our friend EGO gets the best of us.  It happens.  We refuse to admit being wrong or making a less than ideal turn for that undesirable dead end road. It's ok to make mistakes.  It's silly not to learn from them.  There is always something new at the end of the road, choose to find it and learn from it before turning back and finding your real path, again and again.
